Cortland Roller Hockey Taking Advantage of New Student Life Center

Cortland Roller Hockey is slowly starting to become more recognized on campus. The biggest reason for this is because of the newly built Student Life Center. The building opened in early February and has been a hit with students on campus. There is a sport court with hockey boards located in the student center right across from the gym. Everyone entering the Student Center must pass by the rink and view the team practicing. Before that, many people most likely did not know that Cortland had a roller hockey team.

The team usually practices every Tuesday and Thursday night. However, this has been difficult as of late because the school’s Floor Hockey league just began, and it is interfering with the team’s allotted rink time. Even when the players are not able to practice, they have gotten good use out of running on the suspended indoor track around the building. The track, in hand with the weight gym, has allowed the team to keep in shape and stay conditioned in preparation for Nationals in a few weeks.

The biggest week of the season is almost upon us, and the team is feeling confident going into it. It is tough to have a month off from playing and then suddenly jump back into games. The strength and condition training that the team has been doing will prove to be crucial when the first puck is dropped in a few weeks.
