Keeping Up With the Dragons

Although no games took place this week, this was an exciting week for Cortland Roller Hockey. This week, I’ll cover the player of the month award, as well as discuss the roster for the upcoming ECRHA All Star Game.

Earlier this week, Cortland Defenseman Daniel Nelson was named the Eastern Collegiate Roller Hockey Association’s (ECRHA) Player of the Month! Nelson, a sophomore had an outstanding month in terms of points. In just 3 games, Nelson had 10 points. More specifically, he had 7 goals and recorded 3 assists. During this span, he led the team to a 2-1 record. His most notable game of the month was in the Cortland’s 6-5 shootout win against The University of Delaware. Nelson had 4 goals, 1 assist, and then went on to score in the shootout. His impressive performance in the month of January was rightfully recognized, as he is a huge asset to the team and had an unbelievable month.

Another exciting bit of information that came out this week was the release of the ECRHA All Star Game roster. The Dragons have three representatives in the game. January “Player of the Month” Dan Nelson, as well as forward Thomas Hughes and goalie Nick Marrone were chosen to play against the Division 1 all-star team. This year the All Star Game will be held during All Star Weekend in Bethpage, New York. Nelson, Hughes, and Marrone all lead the stat categories on the team for their respective positions.

Come back next week and look for my blog recapping this weekend’s tournament in Old Bethpage, New York.
